Some Of The Stock Market Greats May Be Gone For Good

When thinking about the stock market there is a tendency to think of some of the wealthiest people who have ever graced the markets. That is because they have done so well for themselves that they inspire us to learn more about the markets and hopefully make it big as well. It doesn’t always happen for a lot of people, but at least there are some who see what these great men do and gain something from it. With that in mind, it is perhaps discouraging to think about the reality that many of these heroes may never have their results duplicated.

George Soros: A Profit Machine Until Lately

In today’s world it is literally difficult to imagine how some of the greatest investors in the world got to the points where they are today. This is largely because we are accustomed to much smaller gains on the capital that we invest. Many of us are happy with as little as a few percentage points per year. However, that was not always the way that it was. Marketwatch talks about how certain money managers made quite a bit more money than that in the past.

Soros made a nice chunk of his money before the year 2000. This was a time when the economy was truly roaring, and he could get returns in excess of 20% on a consistent basis. This is something that most of us can only dream of in a world where a 10% return is far more common. However, with markets and economies the way they are anymore, many believe that the era of Wall Street made billionaires is largely over.

Using His Money For Good

Even if it is true that individuals like George Soros are not likely to be around in the future, at least the George Soros that is still with us today has used his money for a lot of good.

In 1979 Soros had already amassed enough wealth for himself that he was able to open the Open Society foundation which seeks to help free people from the grasp of authoritarian governments and instead work towards a more open society that is more equal in its fairness towards all and has more justice.

Details about what all the foundation does can be found at the website.

Great Respect For A Great Man

Based on the fact that George Soros is a public figure who is active in political and social issues, there is no question that some are critical of him. However, it goes without saying that is in fact one of the most generous donors to a variety of causes that he believes in.

The wealth that he acquired through making smart investments in the markets has allowed Soros to be the kind of man he always wanted to be, and it helps him show others that it is possible to reach for the stars and hopefully achieve your true and full potential.

Yeonmi Park: A Lesson in Bravery

When Yeonmi Park was a little girl growing up in North Korea, she never dreamed that some day she would be forced to leave the country in which she was born. In fact, Yeonmi told the reason she was convinced that the leader of the country—Kim Jong-Il during that time—was so powerful that he could even hear her thoughts. Like all of the other North Korean children, she had been brainwashed into believing that the Kim regime possessed supernatural powers.

However, these illusions quickly started to fade away when Yeonmi’s family fell upon hard times when she was an adolescent. After her father was sent to a labor camp for selling metals on the black market, the Park family became outcasts. It wasn’t long before they were desperate and starving, looking for a solution.

Yeonmi’s sister was the first to flee the country, and Yeonmi and her mother were not far behind. Although they did successfully escape North Korea with their lives intact, which was no small feat, Yeonmi and her mother immediately found themselves entrenched in another human rights issue as soon as they came to China. When the guide who had been leading them intimated that he was going to rape Yeonmi, her mother bravely stepped in and sacrificed herself for her daughter. This was a horrendous start to their life in China, which would be marked by brutality and pain after the women were sold into human trafficking.

Eventually, Yeonmi was able to bring her family back together and her father even made his way across the border. Unfortunately, he had been suffering from untreated colon cancer and died shortly afterward. They buried his ashes on the side of a mountain at night, under the cover of darkness. Eventually, Yeonmi and her mother came up with a new plan of escape—this time they wanted to flee to Mongolia, where they could claim asylum as North Korean refugees and start a new life in South Korea.

Although their journey was fraught with danger, the women managed to succeed, leaving their pain behind but never forgetting the horrors they experienced.

Healthier Dogs Start With A Beneful Diet

I was checking out the Daily Herald when I ran across an article talking about the changes being made in dog food and pet foods. The article,, tells us about how the pet food companies are trying to make pet foods better tasting and healthier for our pets. It speaks about how the companies are expecting to make more money in 2016. They are not stressing a lot about how expensive this new pet foods will cost the producers. Some speculate that the profits will be in the millions. I began many years ago giving my dogs Beneful dog food by Purina. My dogs love the dog food because it had both soft and crunchy in the same bag of dry food. Starting with the puppy formula, our dogs are now eating the formula for older dogs. I believe our dogs need the energy and metabolism support that the older dog formula gives them. They are now able to run around a little better than the did prior to me changing their food. The dogs are getting more support for their metabolism and a healthier start to their day. The article in the Daily Herald also tells us how one of the manufacturing chiefs actually put some soft dog food in their mouth, chewed it up, and swallowed it. He made some comment about how good the food was and that it taste like Thanksgiving. Now, this must be some good dog food. Made with real chicken, beef, and fish, the food is supposed to be a better formula for all that is eating it. Mixing a healthier food with more attention to exercise will help my dogs live longer and I know I will be continuing to purchase Beneful for the remainder of their lives. They love the dog teeth dental chews as well. Thank you Beneful for making my dogs happy. I am glad to know that they will be around for a long time.
