Securus’s New Initiative Meant to Help Louisiana State Prison Inmates during the Recent Floods

In a move to help inmates amidst the recent floods in Louisiana State, Securus technologies teamed up with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections (LA DOC). This collaboration will allow inmates locked up at LA DOC to make one free call every day hence staying in touch with their friends and relatives who may be affected by the floods. The program will however be applicable from September 7, 2016.

 

Richard A. Smith, Securus Technologies’ CEO said that the company is focused on connecting inmates with their family members. He also added that in times of disasters, like the recent Louisiana floods, Securus is committed in ensuring that inmates are updated with the wellbeing of their friends and relatives. Mr. Richard pointed out that the floods were severe and significant hence the need to take wise measures in maintaining communications and reducing the stress levels and anxiety of inmates as well as their families.

 

Securus Technologies’ CEO also added that the company will incur $300,000 when issuing this service to inmates. Furthermore, he mentioned that Securus has made a significant cash contribution worth $50,000 to Louisiana Department of Corrections inmate welfare fund. On September 7, 2016, Securus in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Corrections will officially enable the free calling program. The program is expected to connect more than 250,000 free calls within the next 7 days.
